Learn To Sail – Dinghies

 

A dinghy is generally sailed by one or two people and the boat usually ranges from 6 feet to 18 feet long.

Courses available are:

  • BEGINNER SAILOR –  CANSail 1&2 (combined class):
    • Level 1: New sailors will learn how set up (rig) a sailboat, how to leave and return from a dock and perform.  Developing wind awareness and basic sailing maneuvers such as tacking, gybing and sailing reach to reach. Sailors also learn basic sail trim and skills such as capsize recovery and towing.
    • Level 2: Building on Level 1 sailors will further develop how to identify wind direction, how steer a set course towards different wind directions.  Sailors will also continue to learn more advanced skills for boat handling including tacking, gybing and keeping the boat balanced and maneuvering the boat in different directions relative to the wind to reach a predetermined destination.
  • INTERMEDIATE SAILOR  – CANSail 3: Sailing skills are further refined and new skills, such as sailing by the lee and sailing backwards, roll tacking are introduced. Participants will become familiar with right-of-way rules and racing fundamentals.
