VHF-ROC(M) + DSC

If you have a VHF radio on board your boat, you need your VHF-ROC(M) certificate to operate it – IT’S THE LAW! VHF marine radios are popular with boaters because they save lives and are easy to use!

Learn how to communicate and handle emergencies on a VHF marine radio.

PREREQUISITE: None

This short course will cover all aspects of radio operation including the uses of marine radios, choice of frequencies, operation, phonetic alphabet, procedural words and phrases, and how to use Digital Selective Calling and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, (DSC/GMDSS).

The ROC(M) license is a Canadian Federal government-issued card that allows you to operate a marine VHF radio. Examination takes place in 2 parts:  (a) 60 multiple choice questions and (b) 2 short oral questions.

Learning Options

3 evenings.  Materials are provided ahead of time.  Course is taught over 2 evenings with the exam taking place on the 3rd evening.  Oral component done within the week on a separate time.  Exam is completed over Zoom and results will be mailed to you once marked.
