What are the terms for payment and refunds?
Ottawa & Kingston Courses
Payment:

All prices in Canadian Funds.
- Payment accepted by VISA, Mastercard, cheque, cash or e-transfer.
- Daytime, Evening or Weekend (on-the-water) courses: 50% deposit required for all courses when booking. Balance is due 45 days before the course start date.
- Live-aboard (on-the-water) courses: 50% deposit is required at time of booking. Balance is due 45 days before the course start date.
- Classroom Navigation courses: Full payment is required at the time of booking.
- All other classroom courses: Full payment is required at the time of booking.
- Any course subject to discount, promotion or price incentive must be paid in full upon the date of registration.
Course Change:
- One course change prior to 45 days of course start date is allowed at no additional cost.
- Each subsequent course change (prior to 45 days of a course start date) will be charged a $50 administration fee.
- No course changes are allowed within 45 days of a course starting.
- No courses changes are allowed once a course has started.
Cancellations & Refunds:
Cancellations by Advantage Boating:
- If we must cancel an entire course, you may reschedule to a later class in the summer, leave a credit on your account for future use, or receive a full refund.
- For partial cancellations of on-water courses due to unforseen circumstances, a pro-rated refund will be issued if an alternative mutually agreed upon date cannot be arranged.
Cancellations by Students:
Classroom, Home-study, Online courses:
- A full refund (minus a $50 cancellation fee) will be provided if cancellation occurs more than 45 days before the start date and no materials have been shared.
- No refunds are offered after course materials have been shared or within 45 days of the course start date.
On-Water Sail Canada (Ottawa) courses:
- A full refund (minus a $100 cancellation fee) is available if cancelled more than 45 days before the start date.
- If cancelling within 45 days, or after the course starts, the course fee is non-refundable. However, if a replacement is found a $100 administration fee will apply, and any remaining balance will be refunded.
- Students wishing to re-register for the same course in the future will receive a $50 discount on the full course fee.
On-Water Kingston (Daytime or Live-Aboard) courses:
- A full refund (minus a $200 cancellation fee) is available if cancelled more than 45 days before the start date.
- Within 45 days or after the course starts, the course fee is non-refundable, unless a replacement is found. In that case, a $100 administrative fee will apply, and any balance will be refunded.
- Students wishing to re-register for the same course in the future will receive a $50 discount on the full course fee.
Additional Terms:
- Gift certificates are non-refundable, have no cash value but are transferrable. Expiry dates are indicated on the certificate.
- Courses are transferable to another individual (fees may apply).
- Written exams for on water courses must be completed in the same calendar year as the course or extra fees may apply.
- Written exams for online or home-study courses must be completed in one year from the date of registration. Extra fees may apply.
Vacation Courses and Sailing Vacations
- All prices are listed in U.S. dollars.
- To secure your spot, a 50% deposit and a completed, signed enrolment form are required at time of booking. The remaining balance is due by the date specified on the enrolment form.
- Your enrolment will be confirmed in writing by Advantage Boating.
- Once your enrolment is confirmed, the trip is non-refundable.
- Additional terms and conditions are detailed on the Vacation Course or Sailing Vacation enrolment form.
- For all our trips, we encourage participants to obtain trip cancellation insurance in case unforeseen circumstances prevent the trip from taking place. As a TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario) certified provider, we are fully regulated in offering travel vacations. Your sailing vacation fees are protected by being held in a secure trust account. We exclusively use either our own or boats from Tier 1 charter companies to ensure quality and reliability. In the unlikely event that a sailing vacation cannot proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, we will make every effort to secure refunds from our charter partners. Your trips are protected both through TICO and the trip cancellation insurance we recommend you get. Advantage Boating has a longstanding record of offering and delivering sailing vacations for the past 25 years and prides itself from our excellent customer service
Is Advantage Boating Regulated?
Yes. Advantage Boating is a registered travel agency specializing in Worldwide yacht charters, bareboat skippered and adventure sailing holidays, flotillas, mileage builders and courses leading to National certifications. The travel industry in the province of Ontario, Canada is strictly regulated by TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario). We are required by law to be licensed and keep client’s funds in trust accounts. Offering travel services without a license is against the law and our license must be renewed annually. Our TICO registration number is 50024581.
